Cooling trouble

Doraville Air Conditioner Repair

Water where it should not be, a unit that starts and stops all afternoon or air that never gets cold. Found, explained, priced and fixed.

Two Complaints We Hear More Than Any Other

Leaks and short cycling. They show up on Doraville service calls all summer, and they are related more often than people think. An air conditioner pulls a surprising amount of water out of humid air. That water drips off the indoor coil into a pan and runs out through a small drain line. When algae or debris clog the line, water backs up, the pan overflows and a float switch may shut the whole system down. Restart, overflow, shut down again: suddenly the leak looks like short cycling too. Other short cycling has nothing to do with water. A system that is too large for the house cools the thermostat area fast and quits before the rest of the rooms catch up. A low refrigerant charge can freeze the coil, which then melts and drips. A failing capacitor or a worn contactor can make the condenser stutter. A thermostat sitting in a sunny hallway reads wrong. Each cause has a different fix, so guessing wastes money. The repair here starts with readings: drain flow, pan condition, refrigerant pressures, temperature split, electrical values. Then you hear what the problem is and what it costs. If the system is still warm and the quick checks have not helped (thermostat on Cool, breakers on, filter clean, float switch not tripped), that is the moment to phone.

Repairs That Come Up Most

Most cooling calls in the area end with one of these.

  • Condensate drain clearing

Lines flushed or replaced, traps cleaned and the float switch tested, so condensate ends up outdoors rather than in the drywall.

  • Drain pans and pumps

Cracked or rusted pans replaced and condensate pumps checked where the drain cannot rely on gravity.

  • Short cycling diagnosis

Sizing, airflow, refrigerant charge, controls and thermostat location checked until the reason for the stop-start pattern is clear.

  • Iced coils and lines

Thawed safely, then the restricted airflow or low charge behind the ice gets corrected.

  • Capacitors and contactors

The small electrical parts that most often keep a condenser from starting or stopping cleanly.

  • Fan and blower motors

Outdoor fans and indoor blowers checked for current draw, worn bearings and correct speed.

  • Refrigerant leaks

Located first, repaired where practical, then the system charged to specification. No topping off a leak and walking away.

Start to Finish on a Cooling Repair

  1. On the phone

Where the water is, how often the unit cycles, how old it is. A few quick checks may solve it before anyone drives over.

  2. At the equipment

Readings at the drain, the coil, the refrigerant circuit and the electrical panel point to the actual fault. You get the finding and the cost.

  3. After the fix

The system runs through long cooling cycles while the drain is watched and the temperature split is measured. Steady runs, dry pan, cold air.

What You Can Count On

  • Source over symptom

Mopping up a leak or resetting a switch is not a repair. Finding why it happened is.

  • Costs in advance

The fix and its price are agreed before the work begins, with nothing added afterward without a conversation.

  • Any day of the week

Daytime cooling repairs run all seven days, and a breakdown line handles nights.

  • Leaks traced to the source
  • Short cycling diagnosed
  • Costs agreed in advance
  • Every day of the week

Drip Pan Full Again?

Switch the cooling off, catch the water and phone. A technician will help you rule out the simple causes and then find the one that is keeping the leak or the cycling going.
